About this product

4-Stage Under Counter Water Purifier with Germicidal Ultraviolet Provides Delicious, Pure Drinking Water

The PURE UV-3 is a 4-stage water purifier that's easy to install and provides clean and sterilized drinking water for any point-of-use application.  A two-gallon per minute flow rate combined with quadruple filtration ensures safe and effective water disinfection. The PURE UV-3 Drinking Water System features Activated Carbon for removal of chlorine, taste, odors, chemicals, etc., and Ultraviolet Sterilization (UV) to remove waterborne bacteria, viruses, and other harmful microorganisms. A separate and dedicated faucet can be ordered to provide purified drinking water only when you need it!

Your drinking water can be protected from E. Coli, Shigella dysenteriae, Salmonella, and other outbreaks that occur from time to time in both municipal and well water supplies. The space-saving design of The UV-3 under-counter ultraviolet water purifier includes four stages of filtration for disinfected, bacteria-free water.

  • Stage 1 - 5-micron Sediment Filter - First, the water enters through a 5-micron string-wound sediment pre-filter to remove any sediment in the water.
Replace the sediment filter every 8-12 months.
  • Stage 2 - 5-micron Carbon Filter - Next, the water passes through a 5 micron activated granular carbon filter for the removal of chemical contaminants.
Replace the carbon filter every 8-12 months.
  • Stage 3 - 0.5 Micron Carbon Block Filter - As water moves to the 3rd housing, it flows down through a 0.5-micron carbon block cartridge removes heavy metals (such as lead, mercury, copper) and cysts (including crypto, giardia cysts) as well as chlorine, taste, odors, and chemical impurities from the water.
Replace the carbon block filter every 8-12 months.
  • Stage 4 - The water then flows up through the center of the carbon block cartridge where the UV chamber is located. As water enters the stainless steel disinfecting chamber, it's exposed to high levels of ultraviolet light that attack harmful microorganisms, bacteria, viruses and sterilizes them. This process of purification works without chemicals and leaves no residual in the water supply. It is also more cost-efficient than traditional methods of water disinfection, i.e. chlorinating, distilling or boiling.
Replace the UV lamp once per year.

NOTE: Stages 3 & 4 are combined in the same housing.

This compact, under counter drinking water system is easy to install and can be used anywhere that clean, clear, good tasting disinfected water is needed. The UV lamp, sediment, and carbon filters are easily accessible for years of maintenance-easy performance. It's ideal for point-of-use applications including under the kitchen sink, office water coolers, water vending machines, boats, recreational vehicles, etc.

How Effective is UV for Water Purification?

Ultraviolet (UV) light from the sun has long been known for its ability to destroy microorganisms. However, it has only been in recent years that equipment producing UV light has been manufactured for residential use. UV energy is produced by low-pressure mercury vapor enclosed in a tubular lamp. While a UV lamp resembles a standard fluorescent lamp, it is similar in appearance only. The energy produced by the UV lamp has the ability to destroy microorganisms that can live in water. There are five major groups of microorganisms that are altered by a specific spectrum of ultraviolet light: viruses, bacteria, fungi, algae, and protozoa. When these microbes are exposed to the proper amount of UV energy, their DNA structure is scrambled, and they are unable to reproduce. Since the cell is now sterile or dead, it is no longer a threat.

  • If inlet pressure exceeds 75 psi, install a pressure regulator.
  • Use only on water meeting the specified feed water quality requirements.
  • For well water, periodic water testing is recommended to verify hardness, iron, and turbidity remain within operating limits.

Frequently asked questions

What contaminants does the PURE UV-3 remove?

The system removes sediment, chlorine, unpleasant tastes and odors, selected chemicals, lead, mercury, copper, cysts such as Giardia and Cryptosporidium, and disinfects water by inactivating bacteria, viruses, fungi, algae, and protozoa using ultraviolet light.

Does UV sterilization remove chemicals?

No. UV light disinfects microorganisms but does not remove chemicals. Chemical reduction is handled by the carbon filtration stages before the water reaches the UV chamber.

How often should the filters be replaced?

The sediment, GAC, and carbon block filters should typically be replaced every 8 to 12 months, depending on water quality and usage.

How often should the UV lamp be replaced?

Replace the UV lamp approximately every 9,000 hours, or about once per year of continuous operation, to maintain proper UV output.

Does the UV lamp stay on continuously?

Yes. The UV lamp is designed for continuous operation to provide immediate disinfection whenever water flows through the system.

Can this system be used on well water?

Yes. It is commonly installed on properly pretreated well water. Feed water should meet the manufacturer's requirements for hardness, iron, turbidity, and other water quality parameters for optimum UV performance.

What flow rate is the system designed for?

The PURE UV-3 is rated for 2 gallons per minute, providing the UV dosage specified by the manufacturer for point-of-use drinking water applications.

Is a drinking faucet included?

A dedicated long-reach chrome faucet is available as an option and may be ordered separately if required.

What maintenance is required?

Routine maintenance includes replacing the three filter cartridges, replacing the UV lamp annually, and inspecting and cleaning the quartz sleeve as needed.
