How does the Smokemaster C-12 Commercial Electronic Air Cleaner work?

Stage 1 - Metal Mesh Pre-Filter
The C-12 prefilter captures large particles such as hair, lint & pollen before they can enter the electronic cell. 
The pre-filter is washable but should be replaced after repeated use.

Stage 2 - Electronic Cells
The C-12 includes (2) electrostatic cells. Through a process called Electrostatic Precipitation, the cells trap over 97% of airborne contaminants on each pass through the C-12. The ionizing section of the electronic cell electrically charges individual pollution particles. The electrostatic charge forces them to adhere to the oppositely charged collector plates. 
The electronic cells must be washed periodically to maintain efficient performance.

Stage 3 - OPTIONAL Carbon Post Filters
These filters are optional, however, if you're looking for a higher level of odor removal, they're practically a necessity. Carbon helps to remove odors, VOCs, and gases providing a cleaner, odor-free air discharge. Carbon filters are placed on all 4 exhaust vents.
Carbon cannot be washed - filters should be replaced every 4-6 months.

The Smokemaster C-12 key feature is the multi-directional airflow pattern - The Coanda Aerodynamic Principle. The unique 4-way method of air re-circulation maximizes the amount of contaminated air reaching the air cleaner. It gets the maximum amount of contaminated air to the machine most efficiently. Once at the air cleaner, the contaminated air particles are collected through "electrostatic precipitation" (the charging of particles to be collected with the primary washable cell). This provides high-efficiency air cleaning and reduced overall maintenance costs with an environmentally friendly air cleaning solution.

* Due to variations in installation, the C-12 does not come with mounting hardware. Holes are pre-drilled through the unit 16" on center which matches most ceiling joists. Common installation options include; Direct to ceiling framework (3/8" x 8" Lag Bolts required), Light decorative chain or cable, 3/8" threaded rod, Wall mounting (kit sold separately).

Factory Recommended Settings: One unit capacity = 1,050 CFM on medium speed, enough for 8 air changes per hour (ACH) suitable for most spaces.

The Simple Rule of Thumb

• Light/average smoke (restaurants, offices): One C-12 covers about up to 1,000 sq ft.
  
• Heavy smoke (cigar bars, lounges): Expect coverage to drop to ~650–800 sq ft per unit.
  
• Very heavy smoke (dense cigar/tobacco use): Around 500–700 sq ft per unit.

1. Measure room length × width × height = cubic feet
2. Multiply cubic feet × 8 ACH (air changes per hour)
3. Divide by 60 minutes = required CFM (cubic feet per minute)

Figuring out how many Smokemaster C-12 units you need is simple. Will it remove cigar smell?
The electronic cells capture smoke particulate. For stronger odor reduction, add the optional carbon post filters at all four outlets.

How often do I clean the cells?
Intervals depend on smoke load—many venues clean monthly to quarterly. The cells and prefilters are washable; use the OEM detergent and wash container.

Can I wall-mount it?
Yes. A wall-mounting kit and a 3-speed wall switch are available.

Can I ship this to California?
