How does the Smokemaster C-12 Commercial Electronic Air Cleaner work?
Stage 1 - Metal Mesh Pre-Filter
The C-12 prefilter captures large particles such as hair, lint & pollen before they can enter the electronic cell.
The pre-filter is washable but should be replaced after repeated use.
Stage 2 - Electronic Cells
The C-12 includes (2) electrostatic cells. Through a process called Electrostatic Precipitation, the cells trap over 97% of airborne contaminants on each pass through the C-12. The ionizing section of the electronic cell electrically charges individual pollution particles. The electrostatic charge forces them to adhere to the oppositely charged collector plates.
The electronic cells must be washed periodically to maintain efficient performance.
Stage 3 - OPTIONAL Carbon Post Filters
These filters are optional, however, if you're looking for a higher level of odor removal, they're practically a necessity. Carbon helps to remove odors, VOCs, and gases providing a cleaner, odor-free air discharge. Carbon filters are placed on all 4 exhaust vents.
Carbon cannot be washed - filters should be replaced every 4-6 months.

Once at the air cleaner, the contaminated air particles are collected through "electrostatic precipitation" (the charging of particles to be collected with the primary washable cell).
