    About Reverse Osmosis

City water treatment removes dirt and debris and adds chlorine to prevent the spread of diseases. Chlorine does not, however, remove the dissolved minerals and contaminants from the water. With the increasing pollution of our surface and ground water with natural or man-made contaminants such as nitrates, perchlorates, and pesticides, it is more important than ever to have a way to remove them at the point of use.

The pre-filtration, before the RO, helps to prepare the water to permeate the membrane. The sediment filter removes larger particles down to 5 microns such as sand and rust. Next, activated carbon eliminates the chlorine along with any bad tastes and odors. Finally, the Reverse Osmosis membrane removes an average of 95% of dissolved contaminants and minerals from the water at the molecular level including those that cause scale deposits.
